Mariana’s Song

Marianas Song is a multi-sensory cinematic experience created for older people with dementia, living in care homes.

Marianas Song is currently being delivered in care homes across the North East.

Mariana’s Song is a sensory exploration of the North East coast. Viewers experience the joy of natural tactile environments through film and carefully designed props that support the visual and aural elements of the film.

Developed as part of a social prescribing study in partnership with Sunderland Culture, Mariana’s Song soothes and stimulates older people living in care homes who are at risk of isolation and sensory deprivation.

In 2021 we partnered with Northumbria University’s Centre for Digital Citizens who supported us in research and developing this experience and making it accessible for care home audiences. Mariana’s Song aims to remove barriers and demystify multisensory practice.

Mariana’s Song has been designed to be delivered through residencies in care homes. Care Home residencies include;

  • The installation of Mariana’s Song in your care home (all materials included)

  • Direct 1-1 delivery of the experience with your residents.

  • Opportunities for skill-sharing with staff.

We are currently delivering residencies of Mariana’s Song in Redcar, Stockton and Middlesbrough in partnership with Tees Council and funded by Public Health England.
